Chief Complaint

Right lower back and lower leg pain

Patient

74-years-old female, Housewife

Current History

The disease started more than 10 years ago and has gradually worsened. She is receiving drug treatment at an orthopedic clinic, but does not want to undergo surgery, although she has been advised to do so. She has severe pain from the L5 level of the lumbar spine to the right buttock, posterior thigh, and posterior lower leg, and has difficulty walking, especially in the morning. Her symptoms are aggravated by sitting, standing, and walking, and relieved by lying down.

Assessment

Based on the interview and the results of physical and neurological examination, the patient was diagnosed with leg pain due to spinal canal stenosis in the lumbar region.

Treatment

TEAT was stimulated at 1 Hz for 20 minutes in the lumbar region, right buttock and right tibial nerve area. The patient was treated once a week, and at the end of the 8th session, the pain was mild. Thereafter, personal training instruction was given once a week in our clinic to increase the strength of the trunk and lower limb muscles and to gain flexibility of the peri-hip muscles.

Outcome

Six months after the start of training, the frequency of lower back and lower extremity pain was very rare, and walking in town remained pain-free and in good condition.
